Karen LeDoux鈥檚 academic goals sat on the back burner for decades until she found she could use her existing college credits to complete her bachelor鈥檚 degree online. Once she walked through that door, she found new opportunities on the other side.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to get as much out of the MBA program as you put into it. If you鈥檙e putting in the bare minimum, you鈥檙e going to get the bare minimum in return. But if you engage and get into the discussion forums and be involved with the people in your classes, you will have a network of people that you鈥檒l be able to connect with even after you finish.鈥
鈥淚 looked to UL Lafayette, and it just so happened that they were starting this online program. I knew I wanted to be more help to other teachers, and this program would give me the best of both worlds. I could still be with my students, but all the practices I was putting in place, I could also share with my peers.鈥
鈥淥nline worked so much better for me, because I can sit in a classroom and not get anything from it. But put me in a curriculum, tell me to go do the work for myself and do the reading, and I can pick up on it. But compared to in-person classes, you have to be a go getter, or it's just not going to come to you.鈥
"One thing I enjoyed about being in systems technology was that I had elective options. The combination of having systems classes that focused on efficiency, while also having business classes that talked about leadership, progress, and employee empowerment will help me a lot throughout my career."
鈥淚 enjoyed it because I could take classes I was interested in. I didn't have a certain curriculum I had to follow to the T. Health always interested in me, so I took a lot of health and psychology classes.鈥
"I asked questions and really communicated with my professors; I think that's a big thing. Students may be hesitant to reach out to their professors, but they're there to help you if you tell them what鈥檚 going on."
鈥淭here were one or two times where if something was due at 11:59, I was turning it in at probably 11:55, because I had a lot going on. Sometimes we get busy, so I鈥檇 advise students to plan ahead so that you don鈥檛 get behind. Even if you have to do 20 minutes of work here and 20 minutes there, just make sure you do it in advance so that you鈥檙e not late with your assignments.鈥
鈥淵ou think that online, you鈥檙e not going to have those interactions, but I actually had great interactions with all of my professors and other students as well. I鈥檝e made connections with people that I still talk to today that I鈥檝e never met in person.鈥
