Meghan Campbell is an informatics major who transferred to UL Lafayette through the South Louisiana Community College , which allows students to complete two years at SLCC and the following two years at UL Lafayette.
鈥淚 was enrolled at SLCC in the general education program trying to figure out what direction I wanted my life to go,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 found the application software development program and discovered that they participate in a 2+2 program with UL Lafayette鈥檚 informatics program. I spoke with my advisor and enrolled in the program as soon as I could.鈥
Meghan enjoys working with computers and learning about new technology.
鈥淚 always feel so excited and proud when I hit that 鈥楢ha!鈥 moment,鈥 she said. 鈥淪olving the problems that we face in this industry is always challenging, but the end product is always worth it, especially when you get the opportunity to work on something that you know is going to have a positive impact on someone鈥檚 life.鈥
Growing up in Lafayette, the local culture has always been an integral part of Meghan鈥檚 life.
"The best part of studying at UL Lafayette is the culture of Lafayette,鈥 she said. 鈥淭his is my hometown and I feel so lucky that I get to further my education in one of my favorite cities in the world. Everyone here is so nice, and there is always something to do to take your mind off that stressful week you just got through.鈥
Meghan feels that same sense of community among her peers as well.
鈥淚 love how my classmates and I all have each other鈥檚 backs,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e regularly communicate outside of class, and if anyone needs any help, someone is there for them. We know that this can be a tough major, and I think we have a team mentality and want to make sure we all succeed!鈥
Meghan has always enjoyed collaboration.
鈥淚t has always fascinated me how many different solutions can be found to solve one problem,鈥 she said. 鈥淜nowing that I will probably have a different way of thinking about things than the person sitting next to me always inspires me to think outside of the box and to always keep an open mind. Listening to the insight of a co-worker or team member can be very valuable.鈥
Meghan has not only enjoyed her experience at UL Lafayette as a student but also as a mother.
鈥淪omething that I really love about UL Lafayette is the ,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 get to see my daughter flourish, which is very special to my husband and me. She loves going to school every day. She has had opportunities to do some amazing things that other kids in day cares around town don鈥檛 have. She got to meet firefighters and police officers and even got to have a special Homecoming parade with the football players, cheerleaders, and dance team.鈥
